A leader ensures that every student has access to quality teaching and optimum learning experiences.
I'm so pleased to have been a part of the Internship Program at the University of Lethbridge since the Fall of 2016. In that time I was the University Consultant for a dozen or more different cohorts. I've worked to anticipate the kinds of difficulties they might encounter as a beginning teacher and develop their skill set in meeting the challenge. I maintained open communications between all partners in the program the school's internship team (comprised of the Mentor Teacher, the school's administration and the intern) and the university's Field Experiences' leadership. Interns have been thankful for the role I've played in their development.

Course Evaluation Comment (Fall 2017)
"Out of all my practicum placements, I have never had a University Consultant quite like Wayne. Everything that I was expected to do was laid out and clearly explained. I never felt frustrated and lost like some of the other interns with different UC's felt. Wayne gave very constructive feedback and built a good relationship with me. He has a very calming nature about him which really helped me take a breath in an often stressful practicum. I felt extremely supported and thoroughly enjoyed him coming to my class. He was always wiling to answer any questions I had. When I sent anything to him over email he was very quick to respond, usually within the hour which is a nearly impossible task. Wayne has truly set a standard for what all UC's should be like. I will miss his visits and hope he continues to help guide many other future educators! He truly wants what is best for you." - Anon.

I'm proud that I have usually had a teaching assignment in addition to my administrative responsibilities. I've found over the course of my career it offers numerous benefits and insights. The structure of my lesson plans have changed very little over the years, but I did take care to model a standard I expected of the teachers on my staff. In the 2014-2015 school year I provided release time for teacher preparation by taking over their class to offer half-day literacy support lessons for them every other week. The following are samples of such a lesson plan. Lastly, I prepared a unit plan for this unique instructional experience.
